Software assignment and licensing share the same status indicators and thresholds.
The licensing status of a software title is visually indicated on the title’s form, the Software Titles Tracked by Installation view, the Software Titles Tracked by Assignment view and in reports. Although assignment is compared against licenses in the Software Titles Tracked by Assignment view, the result is still referred to as a licensing status. The assignment status is visually indicated on the Software Title Assignment report and in the Software Titles Tracked by Assignment view.
Only an Administrator can change the threshold at which the IT Asset Management Pack determines the licensing status for the three indicators. For more details about the settings, see Software administration settings.
By default, the status of a software title is shown as follows:
Red indicator 
when the
title is either under assigned or under
licensed (entitled quantity of licenses is less than the
installed quantity)
Yellow indicator 
when the title is either
over assigned or over licensed (entitled
quantity of licenses is greater than the installed quantity)
Yellow indicator when the title is almost under assigned or under licensed
Green indicator 
when the title has an acceptable status (assignment
and licensing)
Each version added to a software title has a direct affect on the overall licensing status of the title. If any single version’s status is red, the overall status of the title is red, or under licensed. If any single version’s status is yellow, then the overall status of the title is yellow.
An Administrator can change the threshold at which the IT Asset Management Pack determines the licensing status for the three indicators. For more details, see Software administration settings.
With assignment, we measure assigned titles against entitled licenses to arrive at a status. By default the assignment status of a software title is as follows:
Yellow indicator when there is a surplus of licenses
(entitled quantity of licenses is greater than the assigned
quantity)
Yellow indicator when there is
almost a shortage of licenses
Green indicator when
the title has an acceptable status
Because you cannot assign more licenses or titles than you are entitled to, you can never have insufficient licenses to cover your assignments. For this reason the red status indicator is not applicable to assignment status.
The calculation of your licensing status, and all the values that contribute to it, is automatically performed every 60 minutes by a workflow. You can manually initiate the recalculation anywhere within Software Asset Management, using the Recalculate Software Licensing Values task.
